Molecular Diagnostic Laboratories of Research Center for Genomics Registered in NIH the USA

Prof. Yassaee, Director of SBMU Research Center for Genomics, make a speech on registration of molecular diagnostic laboratories of this research center in the National Institutes of Health-National Center for Biotechnology Information (NIH-NCBI) in the US.

NIH consisting of 27 separate national institutes works as one of the branches of the Health Ministry and Human Services in the USA which is responsible for leading and supervising research in biomedical science.

The results of diagnostic molecular laboratory tests of SBMU Research Center for Genomics (Scientific Center of Excellence) were approved by NIH after having been registered in Gene bank database of NIH and examined and evaluated by their experts. Afterwards, the request of SBMU Research Center for Genomics on registration of its laboratories as a referral laboratory was accepted and approved by NIH.

Prof. Yassaee pointed out to novel scientific achievements of this research center and shed light on 36 recorded cases of genetic data in World Gene Bank in 2014. He stated that these genetic changes are related to three rare syndromes known as TAR syndrome (RBM8A gene), Leukocyteadhesiondeficiency syndrome Type 1 (LAD1, ITGB22 gene), and mandibularachro dysplasia syndrome (LMNA gene) which were detected by researchers of this research center and recorded in Gene Bank of America in the name of Iran and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.

He also mentioned that specialized laboratory of SBMU Research Center for Genomics has recently been approved by the Ministry of Health as the first molecular diagnostic teaching center for thalassemia in Tehran.
